Key Players:

This is not to scare away any one. But Kunal Suthar is the first to score a century in a Penn State Tournament. And we have had only two so far. Mahesh Krishnamurthi scored a century as well, but that was a T20 game. This one, as some of you may not believe me, was a 10-over game. Whatever the bowling credentials were of the opponent, it was a treat to watch. Mahesh himself would concede to Kunal’s unbelievable innings in Spring last year. In spite of being threatening, the shots he played in that innings and other outings as a batsman are so clinical. If anyone’s planning on watching a great batsman at work, you should be there at the fields when this man is batting. What more, he is a devastating fast bowler and the pitch in Flower Gardens should suit his bowling style. He should get a lot more out of this wicket than any one else. Viren Patel is a PSU alumni and he is the captain of the Warriors Cricket Club in WMCB League. He is a genuine out swing bowler and opens the innings for the team in the league. Though his performance with the PSU team in Mid-Atlantic doesn’t justify his capabilities, he is a real class act.

Sridhar and Deepak should be their anchor men and they will be looking to bat as long as they can to help the RainaMen to put up a big score. Gautham Ganesh Prasad is another fast bowler to watch out for. The news is that they will rest many of their key players at the initial few stages of the tournament.

Ratings: Bowling (9/10); Batting (8/10); Overall (8.5/10)

They are the team who are starting this tournament as favorites. On paper, they look the most complete side. But they have been defeated before by some great batting performances. In Spring 2010, Vikram played an unbelievable innings to single-handedly take the Nittany Warriors to victory. A take-home lesson from that innings is that you don’t have to throw the bats at their bowling. If you have a batsman who can play straight and proper cricketing shots, you have a match-winner when and if you take on RainaMen. However, unless that happens, they should race through all the other teams to the finals. I hope someone makes me feel like an idiot on Sunday night.
